Anthony Snyder, an attorney licensed since 2006, has a combination of both private (individual & business) and public (state government) legal practice. He has provided legal counseling within all three branches of the Michigan government, as well as, within the private practice realm, both as a solo practice attorney and for a successful general practice law firm. His experience contains a well-rounded match of legal guidance regarding the state government, legislative implementation, policy creation, courtroom and trial/motion presence, pre-trial research/writing, business planning/guidance/succession and individual legal counseling.
Tony started his career in 2005, fresh out of law school, working as a legislative director for a state senator. In 2007, Tony had the opportunity to enter private practice, and did so until 2014. During those seven years, Tony specialized in criminal defense, estate planning, municipal law and civil litigation. That took Tony to many courthouses across Michigan to represent family law, personal injury, business law, insurance defense, and probate clients.
In 2014, Tony next had the opportunity to re-join the Michigan Senate as a legal policy advisor. In this role, he worked with legislators and their staff, the Governor’s office, the assorted Michigan Departments, interest groups, lobbyists and citizens to help craft legislation that worked for the people of Michigan. This included drafting and amending legislation; hosting meetings amongst interested stakeholders; researching and writing legislative analyses; and working legislation from inception to, ultimately, the Governor’s desk.
In 2016, Tony had the opportunity to join the Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, doing much the same work as with the Michigan Senate. However, working for the Department allows Tony to exercise his administrative law experience, a key quality for legal compliance. In this position, Tony works with and administers legislative acts which govern those in the skilled trades community. License issuance & denial, citations, Code violations, fines, revocations and other administrative matters make up the majority of Tony’s day.
Tony is an experienced podcaster and a lifelong politics junkie. He was the former assistant director for the Model Judiciary Program of the Michigan Youth in Government (honorary title, voluntary position). He has served as Secretary, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Michigan State Bar Administrative Law Section, and currently serves in the Immediate Past Chair position. He lives in mid-Michigan with his wife and furry four legged children. In his free time you can find Tony in Las Vegas, enjoying a quality cigar and sipping a bourbon or rye, neat.
